The aim of physiotherapy is to help restore movement and normal body function in cases of illness, injury and disability. This can be achieved using a wide variety of different treatment techniques including but are not limited to: manual techniques, spinal mobilisation, electrotherapeutic modalities and exercise, as well as massage and stretching.

Your physiotherapist will ask you a number of questions about your general health. Your answers will be treated in complete confidence. You do not need to answer these questions, but if you fail to disclose something that may be relevant to your care, your physiotherapist cannot be held responsible.

Before proceeding with treatment, your physiotherapist will need to carry out an initial assessment. During this assessment your therapist will ask about your specific problem and undertake a holistic objective examination. The purpose of this is to enable your physiotherapist to identify the primary source of your symptoms and recommend an appropriate course of treatment.

During your consultation, it is often necessary to reveal and examine the area in need of treatment. This may involve the removal of some clothing, but your physiotherapist will ensure that every effort is made to preserve modesty and keep you comfortable. If you have any concerns at any point of time during the consultation please tell your physiotherapist, who will make the appropriate adjustments. Treatment can be carried out through clothing, if required.

After your initial examination your physiotherapist will discuss their findings and will recommend a course of treatment for your child. It is policy to ensure the benefits, side effects and potential complications of each chosen modality are explained before use.

If you are not happy with any particular intervention or if you have any questions regarding treatment and services provided, please do not hesitate to talk to your physiotherapist. You have the right to withdraw consent to treatment at any time.

Additionally, any information that arises during a consultation with your physiotherapist that pertains to safeguarding concerns will be shared with the school via the designated safeguarding lead.
