BOOKING RISK STATEMENT
By booking with Arrampica you must read the following information. Depending on which type of course / event / activity you are booking, the risks statements below may or may not apply but you, however, please read them all to be sure you are clear and understand all risks of participation.
____________________
Climbing, high ropes and other adventurous activities whether at height or not, are physically and mentally demanding , they have inherent hazards and risks associated with them and the only way to truly remove those risks and hazards is not to take part, you have this choice throughout the course. Whilst Arrampica Limited staff and contractors take all necessary precautions to try and ensure the safety of all participants, unfortunately accidents will occur in consequence of taking part. Each participant should familiarise themselves with the hazards and try and minimise these as much as possible by complying with Arrampica and its Contractors risk management guidelines and advice. Bumps, bruises, cuts, grazes, sprains and strains are very common and more serious injuries cannot be ruled out, this is reality and by booking, you are accepting this disclaimer. You are also agreeing that you will act in the best interests of safety towards other participants, this means always conduct a pre-commitment check on your partner and confirm with your Arrampica supervisor before leaving ground or any secure point (e.g. platform to zip wire or before climbing), there are no exceptions to this rule, all are involved with checking no matter of your age or position on the course / activity.
The management accepts no responsibility whatsoever for any loss or injury resulting from any persons’ involvement in adventurous activity, understand you are here for adventure and this carries risks that cannot be removed. Furthermore, it is understood and agreed that individuals participate at their own risk. After this form, the briefing card will be read out in full.
________________________
At height harnessed activities (eg climbing / zip wire / high ropes / route setting); Long hair tied back, pockets empty. Any injuries, ailments, concerns or medical conditions detailed to the course director (some conditions may mean you may not want to participate, this is always a choice you have), appropriate clothing, clean closed top shoes secured, jewellery and piercings removed (some ear studs are acceptable), harnesses and helmets well fitted and checked by Arrampica instructor before ascending and that you understand what is being asked of you in terms of the activity and operation of any safety system. Ensure you’ve been to the toilet just before your course starts.
Before leaving the ground, all safety systems must be checked and a clear instruction to proceed given by your Arrampica supervisor (called the pre-commitment check). Always retain control of locking ropes and be aware of taking in all slack rope. Call for your instructor if you have any questions. Any metal on the wall surface or structure that are not part of the activity should not be used (cables, hangers etc). Despite the presence of a rope, any fall can result in injury, ropes will stretch so when weighting a rope you will descent a little or perhaps a lot, this is normal and it there to absorb impact force, but along with that, it remains a fall and as such risks injury. In addition, falls from low height may mean impact with the ground as the ropes elongates and descelarates the fall.
At height activities un-harnessed (eg bouldering / low ropes); pockets empty, any injuries, ailments, concerns or medical conditions detailed to the course director (some conditions may mean you may not want to participate, this is always a choice you have), appropriate clothing, clean closed top shoes secured, jewellery and piercings removed (some ear studs are acceptable) . Ensure you’ve been to the toilet just before your course starts.
Unlike roped activities, these have no safety system. Any ground surface (eg matting / gravel) does not remove the risk of injury, always climb down as far as you can, if you need to drop down, check beneath you, fall in control bending knees to absorb impact on landing (it’s a good idea to have a small jump a little now whilst on the ground to see just how hard the surface is to land on). Any fall carries a risk of severe injury. If bouldering, falling is a part of the sport, you cannot avoid it and some falls may be out of your control, risk of injury is always present. Do not stand under other persons unless using spotting techniques (these will be taught and also carry risk of injury), keep floor areas clear of any obstructions and be aware that falling persons can fall significant distances away from the activity, so keep well clear.
Ground level activities (eg artificial caving / warm ups and downs); pockets empty, any injuries, ailments, concerns or medical conditions detailed to the course director (some conditions may mean you may not want to participate, this is always a choice you have), appropriate clothing, clean closed top shoes secured, jewellery and piercings removed (some ear studs are acceptable) . Ensure you’ve been to the toilet just before your course starts.
Unlike roped activities, these have no safety system. You may slip, trip or fall, there are un-uniform surfaces through the activity, clothing may become ruined so wear clothes you dont mind having tears and scuffs. These activities are generally hot, ensure you are hydrated and request water during the session when you need it. If caving or weaseling there are VERY tight spaces and areas with low or no light, communcate with your instructor if you’re concerned or need advice and be aware that if you suffer from claustrophobia, this activity is unlikely to be one you should participate in.
