Terms and Conditions
The following agreement is for the use of Hodge Howe by club members for using the grounds and club house for swimming and launching privately owned canoes, kayaks and paddleboards.


Hodge Howe grounds and buildings

Club members have the use of all grounds and club house at Hodge Howe. Club members have the responsibility to look after the facilities and report any damages to Windermere School, njeffery@windermereschool.co.uk . Club members have the responsibility to leave the buildings as they find them. No pets are permitted on site at Hodge Howe.


Barbeques and Fires

Club members will have the use of the large gas BBQ which is on the veranda on the north end of the clubhouse. Gas will be kept in a locked box and the BBQ must be left as found. All food waste must be taken off site. No fires are permitted within the grounds at Hodge Howe. No other form of open fire or BBQ equipment can be used within the grounds of Hodge Howe.


Parking

Parking is limited at Hodge Howe, there are parking spaces at the gate and on one side of the access track. The turning circle and boat park must be left free and are not places to park. There are two disabled parking spaces behind the club house - these are to be left available for those that need them.

In the event that no parking is available please drop your members and equipment before finding parking off site.

Swimming (Open Water)

It must be clearly understood that you, as a member, are in charge of the supervision and protection of any member of your party during swimming sessions. Supervision must be from the shore, bank or suitable boat and swimmers must be aware of other lake users. Club members must know the location of appropriate safety equipment, such as a throw line and life ring. The use of floatation aids, buoyancy aids and bright swimming caps should be considered.

Jumping / Seal Launching off the Jetty

Jumping and Seal Launching is only allowed off the end of the Jetty, which runs out from the boat house. The water can be shallow on the south side of the jetty. Wearing a buoyancy aid is strongly recommended and is best practice.

Launching of privately owned canoes, kayaks and paddle boards

Privately owned canoes, kayaks and paddleboards may be used on the lake while you are at Hodge Howe. These are to be launched and recovered from the beach area. No boat storage is available and personal water craft must be removed at the end of your day. It must be clearly understood that you, as a member, are in charge of the supervision and protection of any member of your party during a paddling activity. Personal buoyancy must be used. There are also a number of factors to consider when launching such as weather, wind and other lake users – please ensure you are aware of such conditions and only enter the water if it is safe to do so.


Power Boats

Privately owned power and sail boats may be secured to the jetty while members are at Hodge Howe. No overnight mooring permitted. Water levels change and the jetties and harbour are confined spaces and can be shallow. Boat owners are solely responsible for their vessels. Windermere School does not provide any mooring facilities other than tying to the jetty.

Please note Windermere bylaws for use of power-driven boats on the lake.

Windermere Byelaws : Lake District National Park state the following:

13.1. No power-driven vessel of greater capacity than 4 brake horse power or 3 kilowatts, according to the manufacturers’ specification for engine measurement, shall be navigated by a person under the age of 16 years.


School and Private bookings at Hodge Howe

Windermere School has the occasional sailing or private event that run on a Sunday. These will be in the calendar. On these occasional dates Hodge Howe will not be open to Club members but an alternative date will be made available.


The agreement

I/we understand that Windermere School takes no responsibility for non-Windermere School property and activities outside of our daily operations at Hodge Howe. This includes financial or liability with regards to safety.


I/we consent to our data being collected solely for administrative purposes as part of the Hodge Howe membership.


I/we understand that Hodge Howe must NOT be accessed during school time, the operation of holiday sailing and sailing courses but only during membership hours.


I/we understand that No School equipment can be used.


I/we know the locations of water safety equipment first aid equipment and defib.


I/we understand that the club house must be left as found and any breakages or damage must be reported to school.


I/we understand that Hodge Howe is Pet free and no Dogs are permitted on site


I/we understand that Cars are to be parked in designated spaces, Cars are Not to be parked in the boat park or turning circle.


I/we take all responsibility for my child, family or invited guest while at Hodge Howe and understand that safety decisions on the day are my responsibility.


I/we also accept responsibility to make sure that my equipment is used safely and correctly to avoid harm to third parties.




Any damage caused to Windermere School property must be reported to Windermere school. I/we accept that the school may ask for remuneration to cover any damage.


I/we understand that the school may deny access to Hodge Howe in the case of a private booking or School activity.


Membership fee is £300 per annum, running from 11 May 2025 to 30 April 2026

The additional booking fee that may apply when purchasing tickets via the TryBooking UK Ltd website is not negotiable or refundable and can be subject to change at TryBooking UK's sole discretion. 5. A cancelled, postponed or altered event does not constitute an obligation by TryBooking UK to substitute, refund or provide other compensation monetary or otherwise. 6. Any dispute which may arise regarding the booking of this event or the way in which this event is conducted or the conditions in which this event is held is solely between the ticket holder and the Event Organiser and not a part of TryBooking UK's responsibilities.
