Louis Joel Arts & Community Centre provides a dynamic and community owned multi-functional meeting place that encompasses a broad range of programs and activities supporting the arts and our community.

  • Between Friday 29 April 2022 and Friday 24 June 2022
    Learn the art of crochet in a relaxed, friendly group. Group meets every fortnight on a Friday and is suitable for all skill levels. Each session we'll learn a new stitch that you can use to to make a sampler blanket or cushion cover. This program is supported by the Hobsons Bay City Council through its Make it Happen Grants Program. Every second Friday starting 29 April

    Join instructor Siew for a free morning session of Tai Chi in Logan Reserve, followed by a cuppa and a chat at the Centre. Tai Chi is a gentle form of exercise that has multiple health and wellbeing benefits and is often described as a moving meditation. This program is supported by Altona, Laverton Community Bank.     Learn how to make your own basket using old t-shirts and cotton twine; a great way to repurpose old clothing. You must know how to crochet including how to hold a crochet hook, single crochet and chain. You bring your old t-shirt and we'll supply everything else. This program is supported by the Hobsons Bay City Council through its Make it Happen Grants Program.

    Robyn J Designs Workshops Love free-motion quilting? Want to up your skills and try out some next level fills? Then this workshop is for you! Dive into Robyn’s favourite quilting fills, from grid-based fills to micro-pebbling. Students need to be comfortable with free-motion quilting to participate in this class. Please bring: Sewing machine set up for free-motion quilting, thread, scissors, quick unpick, pencil/ pen to practice drawing designs. A kit with fabric, wadding and hoop provided.

    Alison Stuart began her writing career half way up a tree in the school playground where she wrote her first (unpublished) historical romance. She writes historical romance for Harlequin MIRA, Escape Publishing and also publishes independently. She has twelve published novels as well as a number of shorter works. She also writes historical mysteries as A.M. Stuart. This project is supported by the Hobsons Bay City Council through its Make it Happen Grants Program.

    Nean McKenzie's first book, Cryptosight, was published in October 2019 and her second novel Xenoflight, is coming out in May 2022. Both books are stories for 8-12-year-olds about Australian cryptozoology (creatures that are not proven to exist). Nean has a diploma of Professional Writing and Editing from RMIT and writes regular book reviews for Buzzwords magazine. This project is supported by the Hobsons Bay City Council through its Make it Happen Grants Program.
