    The South Australian Special Interest Group of FamilyHistoryWA meets once a quarter to assist people with South Australian ancestry to research their family history. We also have online sessions on Tuesday mornings in March, May and October.

    Bookings for use of resources at May Street in Units 5 and 6. You must not come to May Street if you are waiting on the results of a COVID-19 test, have a fever, are displaying symptoms of cold or flu, or if you have been exposed to another person who may be suffering from COVID-19 or who is awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test. On entry you must complete the mandatory Contact Register either by scanning the OCR or completing the written record.

    WHO’S BEEN SLEEPING IN YOUR HOUSE? WITH DR SUSANNA IULIANO. BYO wine and cheese. A time to get to know other fellow family historians. After our guest presentation there will be Q & A. Continue the conversations and have a coffee to complete the evening.

    Are you writing your family history or don't know where to start? Join this group of family historians who go beyond names and dates to flesh out the stories behind their ancestors. Monthly meetings include presentations and discussions to aid our writing. We have optional writing assignments and in small groups we positively critique our submitted stories. Meetings in 2021 will continue to be online until government restrictions are lifted and/or it is safe to hold face to face meetings.

    Display your family history without writing a book! How else can you tell or display your story? Bring your examples or ideas you and others might do. Bring your materials and ideas, but do not forget your chair, lunch and drink. If the weather is unfavourable an alternative COVID safe venue will be advised before the day.

    The regular monthly meeting of the FamilyHistoryWA Technology Special Interest Group. Join us for a fascinating tech topic, get the latest tech news, ask a tech question or just enjoy the tech talk. In 2021, meetings will continue to be online with a possible expansion to mixed-mode meetings once current restrictions have lifted.

    The DNA Special Interest Group will meet four times during 2021 following whatever restrictions are in place at the time. Information about 2021 events will be updated as the situation dictates closer to the time.

    The NoE SIG meet to help others with their family history journey. We specialise in the North of England, including the Island of Mann and down to Rutland. In 2021, meetings of the NoE SIG will be held online until further notice.

    After the attending the online FHWA Orientation session, this is a face-to-face small group tour of our Research Centre. Our computer research system will be demonstrated. Participants may stay on to do their own research with assistance from FHWA library volunteers.
    FHWA Unit 4 Workshop

    My Ancestor Went to Sea: UK Shipping and Seafarer Records: A Case Study. Peter Hamersley will look at the records available and show how he has used them to create a career time line of his seafaring 3x gt grandfather. We will also hold our AGM at this meeting. We will need to elect committee members for 2021. All positions will be declared vacant and anyone willing to stand is welcome to come forward.

    The meetings of the Legacy User Group in 2021 will occur monthly on alternating Sundays and Tuesdays from January to November. The meetings may be online, face-to-face or mixed mode depending on the situation at the time and this information will be updated as it becomes available.

Our aim is to increase our knowledge and understanding of this area and discover information about our ancestors who lived there.
