    The May meeting of the Military Special Interest Group will mark our 5th year of operation. Come along to celebrate, bring your questions and share your successes and frustrations researching your military ancestor. This will also be our 2021 Annual General Meeting. You can attend either in person or online.

    The Scottish Special Interest Group of FamilyHistoryWA will hold quarterly meetings online until further notice.
  • Tuesday 18 May 2021
    Neil Wilson will provide an in depth guide to researching your ancestor in Denmark. There will be plenty of time to use the resources of the research centre to research your Danish Ancestors with Neil's assistance. The session will also be useful for us researching in nearby countries and for volunteers at May Street and the State Library. Note: this session is booked for 2.5 hours.

    The India and South East Asia (ISEA) Special Interest Group of FamilyHistoryWA meets in February, May, August and November. Our aim is to increase our knowledge and understanding of this area and discover information about our ancestors who lived there. In 2021, the group will meeting online until government restrictions and the risk associated with COVID-19 has abated.

    The DNA Special Interest Group will meet four times during 2021 following whatever restrictions are in place at the time. Information about 2021 events will be updated as the situation dictates closer to the time.

    The meetings of the Legacy User Group in 2021 will occur monthly on alternating Sundays and Tuesdays from January to November. The meetings may be online, face-to-face or mixed mode depending on the situation at the time and this information will be updated as it becomes available.

Whether you are just starting your search, or you have been doing this for years, there's something to be learned in this informative session.

    Are you writing your family history or don't know where to start? Join this group of family historians who go beyond names and dates to flesh out the stories behind their ancestors. Monthly meetings include presentations and discussions to aid our writing. We have optional writing assignments and in small groups we positively critique our submitted stories. Meetings in 2021 will be a mixture of online and face to face meetings at May Street as note in the session description.

    The regular monthly meeting of the Technology Special Interest Group. Join us for a fascinating tech topic, get the latest tech news, ask a tech question or just enjoy the tech talk. In 2021, meetings will continue to be online with a possible expansion to mixed-mode meetings once current restrictions have lifted.

    After the attending the online FHWA Orientation session, this is a face-to-face small group tour of our Research Centre. Our computer research system will be demonstrated. Participants may stay on to do their own research with assistance from FHWA library volunteers.

    Saturday 20 March 2021 11am My Ancestor Went to Sea: UK Shipping and Seafarer Records: A Case Study. Peter Hamersley will look at the records available and show how he has used them to create a career time line of his seafaring 3x gt grandfather. We will also hold our AGM at this meeting. We will need to elect committee members for 2021. All positions will be declared vacant and anyone willing to stand is welcome to come forward.
