Burwood Library is supporting HSC students in our community with a trial of Midnight Library Study Sessions in the Community Hub, during October and November 2021. From 8pm to midnight on Tuesdays and Thursdays, you can book a study space in the Library Hub.

Midnight Hours on Thursdays

Burwood will open the Hub section of the library on Thursday nights till midnight, between the 16th of February 2023 and the 3rd of August 2023. To be able to access the space, you must be a Burwood Library member and register via our booking platform. You’ll be issued a security code to enter the Hub section between 8pm -12am each week. You must book for each Thursday, and booking once does not allow you access for other Thursday nights.

Robogals UNSW present SUMO

Burwood Library is hosting Robogals UNSW, the Sydney chapter of the global Robogals organisation. Established in 2009 to promote STEM to girls across NSW, they will be presenting their most popular workshop, SUMO, where students construct robots, customise them to their preferences and program them to push each other out of a ring. This is a competitive workshop where each group battles for supremacy in the sumo ring.

Japanese Marbling craft session

Suminagashi 墨 流 し or “floating ink” is the craft of marbling paper with water and ink to create something vibrant and colorful. The process originated in Japan, believed to be from the 12th century. Dive in, and take a swirl with Burwood Library. Session is for 8-12 year olds.

Are you a bubble tea fan or a little curious about the cold milky drink you see all around Burwood? Burwood Library invites you to celebrate the unique milk tea culture in Burwood and learn about process of making boba (aka bubble) tea with a tour of six bubble tea stores in Burwood. The Tour runs for approximately an hour, and you’ll learn everything there is to know about bubble tea and more. You’ll also be given a map during the tour with locations of all 20 stores you can visit in Burwood after the tour.

Using premium soy wax and natural aromatic oils, participants will take home two candles in glass packaging; tea light and jar candles. Build-A-Beat: Beginner work

Tuesday 27 September 2022
Does your child enjoy music? Are they an aspiring DJ, songwriter or videographer? In this fun and focused workshop your child will learn the fundamentals of electronic beat composition. Using IPads, and the Garage Band application, they will build a beat, layer it with loops, and break it down. The tricks and skills they will learn in this session will mean they can begin to compose a pop-song, or a backing track for performance, or perhaps as a score for a video project. The possibilities are endless! This workshop is intended for beginners who have had little-to-no experience with using an electronic step-sequencer or drum machine. We will supply IPads to all participants but if they want to bring their own it will mean they can seamlessly continue their work at home for a music-filled spring holiday.

Explore with Bee-bots: Learn Directional Coding

As part of Science Week, Burwood Library is presenting a workshop in the Ampitheatre. Delightful games will use Bee-bots to explore the solar system, animals in the zoo and snakes and ladders. This is an excellent introduction to directional coding. Workshop activities will run in the morning. In the afternoon children are welcome to engage in free-play with the bee-bots. Parents will be encouraged to assist on a tabletop activity if necessary but this is not required. This activity is suitable for children aged 6 – 11 years.
