Monash Public Library Service is a 6 branch service situated in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria. All programs and events are cancelled until further notice due to closure of library premises. (Programs and events for people of all ages are normally offered all year round.)

    Laughter Yoga is an effective practice of using voluntary laughter to bring all the benefits of laughter to enhance physical and emotional wellness. Laughter has been proven to have both psychological and physiological benefits to health and wellness so we invited Let's Laugh to run a virtual Laughter Yoga session for our community. We've even scheduled it at lunchtime so people who are working from home can take a much needed break and join in this fun and free session.

    Being a Digital Mentor is about inspiring people to try using digital technology and supporting them through the first steps of learning in your community. In this two part course conducted via Zoom, you will learn about the BeConnected initiative and the skills and strategies to become an effective digital mentor.     This free program is for people who know and understand some English and wish to practice listening and speaking in an informal online group setting. Sessions will use the Zoom platform. Dates are 9, 16, 23 and 30 November. Bookings on 9 November count as enrollment for all four sessions. Only book for Mondays or Fridays (not both days)

    Journalist Melissa Davey is the Melbourne Bureau Chief for The Guardian Australia. She is also the only journalist to have covered Cardinal Pell’s appearances at the child abuse royal commission, his committal-hearing mistrial, his retrial and appeal. As such she has been able to provide a deep, thorough and credible examination of the case in her book The Case of George Pell: reckoning with child sexual abuse by clergy. Join us in conversation with Melissa Davey via Zoom in November.

The campaign aims to raise awareness about the role speech pathologists play in developing children’s language and literacy.     William (Bill) McKeever is dedicated to ocean conservation and has written an incredible and insightful book about the importance of sharks, Emperors of the Deep, as well as producing a documentary for release later this year (clips will feature in this event). The author will join us from his home in New York via Zoom to talk about his book, research, and his mission to change people’s views and increase their understanding of sharks. Participants will be sent a Zoom link before the event.

    You will need to have completed the first part of the Digital Mentor training to join this session. This second part of the training will cover learning resources within the BeConnected topic library and how to facilitate discussions and activities as a mentor within your group sessions.

    Join us online for a special reading of the books Bush Tracks and Summer Rain (both written and illustrated by Ros Moriarty and Balarinji) to mark NAIDOC Week 2020. This storytime will use the ZOOM platform. Zoom link will be emailed out the day before the event.

    Dinner is sorted when you join our Vegan Cooking Workshop via Zoom on World Vegan Day! Learn how to adapt two dishes for vegan or vegetarian diets as well as learn more about how to include more plant based meals in your life. You will receive an ingredient list prior to the workshop to ensure you’re ready to engage with the presenter and get cooking. For all ages (children must be supervised) - only 1 booking required per household.

    SolarBuddy is an Australian charity uniting a global community with a big dream to gift six million solar lights to children living in energy poverty by 2030. In partnership with Sustainable Monash, we are giving up to 100 families the opportunity to assemble up to four solar lights each that will then be distributed globally to children in need across the globe. Children in the families can also write a letter to their “Buddy” who will receive the lights.
