Introduction to Green Woodworking - Spindle Course

This is a 1-day green woodworking course introducing you to this mindful rural craft.
β Learn about the properties and handling of green wood
β Get familiar with tools, including the draw knife and the pole lathe
β Create a selection of objects before taking them home to show off
This is an ideal way to begin your foray into green woodworking. Our bodger turned tutor, Richard, will clearly explain the properties of green wood, starting with a log and knocking it down with an axe. Next you will begin to shape it on a draw knife, before mounting it on a spindle pole lathe to refine your design using a variety of chisels. You should be able to take home a rounders bat, rolling pin, candle stick or similar.
Itβs a great opportunity to gain skills in this mindful rural craft. Once you have completed this course, Richard also offers a stool making course over two days. You can use your skils on the spindle to create three legs, and then learn new woodworking skills to create the seat.
- All tools are supplied by the instructor.
- Wear clothing suitable to work undercover but outdoors.
- Bring a packed lunch to enjoy in the barn or courtyard.
- Hot drinks will be provided throughout the day.

- The course and venue are not suitable for participants to bring their dogs or other pets.
- An email will be sent prior to the course to give directions to the barn.
