The Flashy Girl from Flushing: The Nanny and Jews on TV
The Lamm Jewish Library of Australia proudly presents a lecture by Professor David Slucki.
Join us as we delve into the recent upsurge in interest in The Nanny, and what it has to teach us about contemporary American Jewish life.
THE IMPACT OF THE NANNY:
The Nanny was a milestone of popular culture, and the representation of Jews and Jewish women. Today, many of the most celebrated television series feature strong Jewish women. Without Drescher's sharp-witted and fabulously dressed nanny, these might never have been possible.
ABOUT PROFESSOR DAVID SLUCKI:
David Slucki is the Director of the Australian Centre for Jewish Civilisation, and the Loti Smorgon Associate Professor of Contemporary Jewish Life and Culture at Monash University. He has written widely on Jewish life after the Holocaust, focusing particularly on survivors and their descendants, and on representations of the Holocaust.
