
MLC is delighted to invite our Old Collegians to join with Year 10 students during the 2025 Festival of Stories to hear poet, writer and author-illustrator Maxine Beneba Clarke speak about her award-winning books. Read Maxine’s biography below.
Following the talk, you are invited to accompany MLC Libraries Director Inger Krueger and Deputy Director Amanda Lucas (1979) to the Walton Library for lunch with the Staff Book Club. Maxine will join guests at lunch for this special gathering.

Biography
Maxine Beneba Clarke is the Australian author of over fifteen books for adults and children, including the poetry collections It's the Sound of the Thing: 100 new poems for young people, and Stuff I’m (Not) Sorry For, the bestselling memoir The Hate Race and the ABIA and Indie-award winning short fiction collection Foreign Soil. Her children's picture books include the CBCA Honour Book The Patchwork Bike, and the illustrated poem When We Say Black Lives Matter, which was longlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal. She is currently the inaugural Peter Steele Poet in Residence at The University of Melbourne.
