The Port Augusta City Council invites you to participate in THE STUDIO as part of our Art Experiences for over 50s Program.The Studio
Wednesdays (9:30am–12:00pm OR 1:00pm–3:30pm)
Create, refine, and prepare for exhibition.
The Studio offers a deeper, more immersive artistic experience for participants wishing to advance their skills and create a fully resolved artwork for public exhibition and sale.
Working in small groups of only 10 participants, each artist receives personalised guidance from facilitator Christie Mitchell, developing confidence and technical skill in a supportive and focused environment.
Over four structured sessions, artists learn what is involved in preparing artwork for a professional exhibition — including concept development, canvas preparation, framing, finishing, and presenting work for sale.
Participants select one dedicated art stream:
Watercolour (4 sessions)
Create a refined A2 watercolour artwork using washes, detail, and colour harmonies, guided step-by-step through the process.
OR
Acrylic & Mixed Media on Canvas (4 sessions)
Explore acrylic painting, texture, layering, and mixed media while developing a 50cm canvas ready for exhibition.

✔ Morning or afternoon tea
✔ Expert mentorship from Christie Mitchell
✔ Guidance on preparation, presentation, and finishing techniques
✔ Support to produce an exhibition-ready artwork
Exhibition & Artwork Sales
All completed artworks will be displayed in the Age Friendly Arts Exhibition at Yarta Purtli Art Gallery in October–November 2026.
Participants agree that their finished artwork will be:
Exhibited publicly
Available for sale (70% to the artist, 30% reinvested into future Age Friendly programs)
This provides invaluable real-world experience in showcasing work professionally while supporting the long-term sustainability of the program.
