🎬 Making a Short Film with (Almost) No Budget
About
The script is written. The idea is strong. But the budget? Almost non-existent.
So how do you actually get a short film made — without waiting for permission, funding, or perfect conditions?
🎬 Making a Short Film with (Almost) No Budget is the first event in From Idea to Screen, a three-part Screen Presence series created for emerging filmmakers at a familiar crossroads: ready to make something, but unsure how to start.
The broader program unfolds across six months, with each session building momentum and clarity along the way.
This session brings together filmmakers Justin Villar, Taysha McFarland, Troy Kwon and Mark Day, sharing lived experience and practical strategies for getting shorts made with limited (or no) resources — and the power of community.
We’ll explore:
• where to start when money isn’t an option
• building momentum through self-initiated work
• making creative decisions that serve the story — not the budget
• finding collaborators, crew and support
✨ You’ll leave with clear, practical steps you can put into action immediately.
