Elijah
About
The oratorio Elijah (Felix Mendelssohn’s Elijah Op. 70) gives voice to a mighty prophet who is plucked from obscurity and lends a quiet but strong voice amid dark and turbulent times. The story of Elijah reflects a timeless response to upheaval and injustice and the stand against corruption, resonating with the world today.Elijah is a deeply human figure – one who wrestles with exhaustion, burnout and self-doubt. First performed in 1846, Elijah has become one of the most celebrated oratorios in the choral repertoire. Rich in emotional depth and musical brilliance, the themes of courage, doubt and moral conviction still speak to audiences around the world.
Conducted by Patrick Brennan and featuring the Central Coast Youth Orchestra with the amazing bass soloist David Greco bringing Elijah to life with his glorious vocal strength and superb artistry.
