Victoria Chorale

Ballarat Wind Orchestra

Mezzo Soprano Sally-Anne Russell

Conductor Mario Dobernig

Following Victoria Chorale’s successful European Tour, please join us for our second 2026 concert that explores the theme of ‘Coming Home’ with a uniquely eclectic program.

The concert will include heartfelt Australian anthems and an indigenous-inspired work; a romantic, jazzy cabaret piece; and classical European masterworks contrasted with a fun, folk-inspired Austrian march to create an entertaining cultural experience.

We’ll be collaborating with the Ballarat Wind Orchestra with whom we share our Musical Director and Conductor, Mario Dobernig, and will be joined by Sally-Anne Russell, renowned Mezzo Soprano. It will be a delight to perform with the region’s premiere wind ensemble!

We’re proud to be featuring the Australian premiere of ‘The Two Trees’, a new composition by our rehearsal accompanist and award-winning concert pianist, William Schmidt.  Commissioned by Victoria Chorale, Will has created a wonderful choral work drawing on William Butler Yeats’ famous poem that explores different ways of perceiving the world and our place in it.

Other works include:

‘Stabat Mater’ by Giuseppe Verdi, the second and most intense part of his four sacred pieces that fuses early Renaissance polyphony purity with the raw, emotional power of Verdi’s operatic style featuring soaring choral and solo performances.

‘Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence' by Gustav Holst showcases our wind and brass ensemble as they blend with the choir to create complex harmonies.

‘Tunggare’, a culturally rich a capella vocal homage reflecting the deep Indigenous and contemporary musical heritage of Australia.

‘I Still Call Australia Home’ by Peter Allen and ‘I Am Australian’ by Bruce Woodley and Dobe Newton, both well-known, nostalgic  Australian anthems.

‘As Time Goes By’ by Herman Hupfeld, a wonderfully jazzy version that captures the sweeping romance of classic Hollywood.

‘Zottelmarsch’, this traditional, playful Austrian march is a lot of fun.

A performance not to be missed!

Early bird closes 30 July, 2026.
