Sunday Sessions Jazz at The Hastings - Bowral Golf Club on Sunday 11 October features The Nana Koizumi Quartet!
Nana Koizumi (Trumpet & Vocals); David Allen (Piano); Mervyn Sequeira (Double Bass); and Jodie Michael (Drums)
Nana is a globe-trotting jazz artist known for her unique style as a “singing trumpeter”, blending instrumental mastery with heartfelt vocals. Her journey has taken her across major music cities including New York, Los Angeles, Thailand, Korea, and Canada, where she actively sought out collaborations with local musicians through events and parties—developing a deeply rooted international sensibility along the way.
In November 2022, Nana relocated to Australia to further immerse herself in the country's vibrant and diverse music scene. She quickly became part of the local jazz landscape, deepening her connection with musicians and audiences alike.
Her Australian debut was marked by a major appearance on International Jazz Day 2023, performing to sold-out crowds at Sydney’s renowned venues, Butchers Brew Bar and Lazybones Lounge. She was later featured in an interview by SBS as part of their series “Japanese People Active in Australia”.
Nana's presence continued to grow throughout 2023 and 2024, with performances at the Australian Sake Festival (Sydney 2023, Melbourne 2024), the JAPAN Festival in Melbourne, and the SydFest Independent Film Festival opening ceremony. She also made a live appearance—both performing and broadcasting—on Melbourne’s beloved PBS radio program, where her artistry resonated with local listeners.
2024 also saw her sharing the stage with Sampa the Great at Fed Square in February and performing at the Alibaba EXPO at Sydney's International Convention Centre in March.
October 2024 marked Nana’s South Korean debut with a sold-out performance at the jazz club Flat Nine. In November and December, she made her China debut at Jazz at Lincoln Center Shanghai, a globally respected venue. This was followed by a nationwide tour across several Chinese cities, where she was welcomed with enthusiastic acclaim, concluding the tour to great success.
In January 2025, she performed at BLUE YARD, produced by Blue Note Japan, receiving high praise.
In Spring 2025 she released her much-anticipated first mini-album, ‘By Your Side', supported by a tour across Japan, Korea, and Australia.
In May 2025, Nana made her television debut with an appearance on Nara TV’s “Yu-Doki”, highlighting her accomplishments as an internationally active jazz musician.
She made her debut at the 2025 Wangaratta Festival of Jazz & Blues , one of Australia’s most prestigious jazz festivals. She became only the second Japanese artist in history to perform there, sharing the stage with a group of outstanding up-and-coming Australian jazz musicians.
Beyond her performance career, Nana is also committed to cultural exchange through music. She launched the “Japanese Music Project”, an initiative that brings Japanese musical traditions to life through jazz, building a bridge between Japan and Australia. In this role, she continues to expand her influence not only as a performer but also as an organizer and cultural ambassador.
The $40 ticket price ($35 for SH! Jazz members, $20 for student/child) plus booking fee is for event entry only, with reserved table seating. Space is limited, so book early to ensure your spot!
Food and drink is available to order at The Hastings Bowral. If you have any special song requests or seating preferences, please let us know when you book. Lunch is available from 12 noon with the band playing from 2-4:30pm.
