About

Join us to celebrate the cultural heritage of Timor-Leste, 15 years on from independence.

Symposium: 10am-3pm, October 27.
The symposium will include keynote speaker Marqy Da Costa, director of Afalyca Community Arts Centre, Kim Dunphy and Holly Schauble from Many Hands International speaking about the digital preservation of the cultural heritage of Fataluku, and human rights advocate Pat Walsh (OTL, AM) speaking about the new institute of memory (Centro Nacional Chega!). We will also hear from local Timorese community member Jose Pires sharing his experience of Timorese cultural heritage and how it has been a cornerstone to his identity and the forefront of the community's contribution to Timor-Leste's struggle for independence.

Exhibition opening: 6-8pm, October 27.
Join us for the official opening. The exhibition includes prints from Afalyca, Tais from East Timor Women Australia (ETWA), a photo display from the 40th anniversary of Timor-Leste refugees coming to Australia, and a conservation project undertaken by Grimwade Centre students from the University of Melbourne with CHART Inc.
