The Greek Australian Cultural League warmly invites you to the Melbourne launch of Hydra in Winter by Shelley Dark—Saturday 24th May, 2–3.30pm at the Hellenic Museum, 280 William Street, Melbourne.Named a Notable Book of 2025 by The Weekend Australian Review, Hydra in Winter is the story of what happens when you fly to a Greek island in the middle of winter to chase a pirate. Shelley went in search of her husband’s great-great-grandfather—Ghikas Voulgaris, one of the first Greek convicts in Australia. She stayed in a Voulgaris mansion, climbed the hills, spent time with the archive staff, and—thanks to the hospitality of the locals—discovered the quiet joy of slow travel.
