Rooted in Afro-Cuban (Saturday), Pacific Island (Sunday), and Wadawurrung traditional dance and music (Monday), the retreat moves between tradition and now—sound, image, rhythm, and motion shaped by the Southern waters.

A convergence of cultures. A shared creative pulse. Land, sea, and contemporary expression in flow.

Program..still developing!! But put it in your diary now!!

DEMIR ALIU Immerse yourself in the transformative sound journey of a multi-instrumentalist, intuitive sound artist, performer, and facilitator whose work bridges the realms of music, ritual, and soulful connection. Through original songs and spontaneous improvisation, Demir creates beautifully woven soundscapes that blend acoustic instruments, ancient ritual tools, and expressive voice. Each sound immersion becomes an exploration of the threads that connect us across cultures, times, and cosmic influences—a journey through vibration, emotion, and the shared human need for expression and belonging. Demir Aliu

JACQUI DREESSENS moves with the rhythm of land and water. An eco–ethnochoreologist and multidisciplinary artist, she listens to the quiet language of place — where wind, tide, and body speak to one another. Her work breathes at the crossroads of movement, sound, poetry, and film, forming living rituals of connection and belonging. Guided by the wisdom of World Indigenous dance cultures and their profound relationships with spirit and earth, Jacqui invites us to feel where we stand, to remember where we come from, and to sense the ocean meeting the shore within our own bodies. Jacqui Dreessens_Wild Moves International

LEONIE BROWN ‘Whale Tail’ is a work in progress and has slowly been created over ten years. The rope has been collected over that time from beaches around the Surfcoast, around Australia and around the world. The idea that each piece of rope picked up saves injury to an ocean or air creature. My love/hate relationship with plastic waste initially came from teaching ‘take 3 for the sea’ to Surfcoast students at Bellbrae.

FERNE MILLEN is a photographic artist living on Wadawurrung Country. Her work weaves storytelling, portraiture, and connection to the natural world, drawing from her Scottish, Scandinavian, and English heritage. Her current project explores seaweed as a living symbol of breath, identity, and belonging. Through self-portraiture and collaboration, Millen turns the lens inward—using her body as vessel to embody story, ocean memory, and the invisable threads that bind us to place and one another. A recipient of the 2023 Olive Cotton Award Director’s Choice, she has also been a finalist numerous times in the Moran Contemporary Photography Prize and the National Photographic Portrait Prize. www.fernemillen.com

CHALISA MORRISON is an ocean-inspired artist based in Torquay on Victoria’s Surf Coast. Her work blends bold colour with abstract and impressionistic styles to celebrate the beauty and ecological importance of the sea. Chalisa seeks to share her passion for the ocean, inviting viewers to slow down, reconnect with nature, and appreciate the magic and vulnerability of our blue planet. https://art-by-chalisa.simplerosites.com/

KIM SARGENT- WISHART is an artist, researcher and educator living on Wadawurrung Country, Bellarine Peninsula. She specializes in somatic movement and dance education, embodied anatomy, somatic writing, contemplative photography and dance improvisation. A certified Teacher of Body-Mind Centering® (BMC) and BodyMind Dancing™, she co-directs the BMC® certification program at Somatic Education Australasia. Her practice-led PhD in Performance Studies explored somatics, experiential embryology and Tibetan Buddhist philosophies in creative practice. Through in-person and online classes, Kim creates generous and generative spaces for moving, thinking and collaboration. kimsargentwishart.com

ALITA has been teaching yoga since 2010. She is passionate about sharing the many benefits of classical style Hatha Yoga and Yoga Nidra (guided deep relaxation) with anyone from absolute beginners to seasoned yoga practitioners. Her teachings include turning inwards, being mindful of breath and body to find a balance between comfort and challenge, creating space for the body and mind to strengthen, rejuvenate and relax.

CHRISTINA MONNERON is an Afro-Cuban dance educator, choreographer, and cultural practitioner with over 25 years’ experience sharing Cuban dance traditions across Australia and internationally. Having studied in Cuba in the late 1990s, Christina’s work bridges folkloric dance, social dance, and embodied movement practices, honouring Afro-Cuban Orisha traditions as living, breathing expressions of nature, rhythm, and community. Her teaching style is inclusive, grounded, and deeply embodied—inviting people to reconnect with their essence through movement rather than performance. Christina is passionate about cultural respect, ancestral wisdom, and creating spaces where dance becomes a pathway to connection, vitality, and belonging. https://afrekete.com

LOS LOCOS is the local quirky Spanish Latin Band from the Surf Coast fronted by Micheal Martinez. This bands unique take on classic Spanish and Cuban songs as well as their original music is a guarantee to great vibes and lots of dancing. The band has been performing all over Victoria for over 20 years. Los Locos

Mishael Gyabeng is a Ghanaian musician, cultural educator, and artistic director who grew up immersed in traditional music and dance in Ghana. He learned Kpanlogo and other rhythms through lived experience—singing, drumming, and dancing from a young age as part of community life. Mishael has extensive experience leading workshops with children, young people, and adults, sharing not just rhythms, but the stories, meanings, and cultural values that sit within the music. His teaching style is inclusive, joyful, and grounded in authentic tradition.

Stella Savy is a musician, vocal coach, and community arts leader with over 30 years’ experience in performance, education, and cultural facilitation. She has directed community and school choirs, led countless workshops across Australia, and worked extensively in cross-cultural music projects. Stella brings a strong ability to hold safe, welcoming learning spaces, helping participants connect rhythm, voice, movement, and cultural understanding.

Camila Morales is a Rapa Nui Polynesian dance and voice artist whose performances weave ancestral movement, rhythm, and vocal expression. Grounded in island traditions where dance is prayer and storytelling, her work explores the archetype of the Ocean Mother—embodying fluidity, strength, and remembrance. Camila has performed for over 25 years in Rapa Nui, Chile, French Polynesia and across Australia at major cultural festivals including WOMADelaide, Adelaide Fringe, Brisbane City Fest, Island Vibes, O’Heart Folk among other multidisciplinary events. Her performances are traditional,  ceremonial, site-responsive, and rooted in deep respect for land, lineage, and embodied presence.

Wild Moves on the Surf Coast is a living pulse of creativity and connection — a place where cultures meet, stories move, and the land breathes through us. We celebrate difference, listen to Country, and create with courage, rhythm, and heart. Inspired by World Indigenous cultures and their fierce love for Mother Earth, Wild Moves invites everyone to learn from each other, stand grounded in place, and feel the power of making art together. Wild Moves on the Surf Coast

Melody Moon is a Surf Coast songwriter, producer and performer with over 15 years in the music industry. From folk to mantra to entwining local nature samples into beats, her work creatively champions a re-connection with nature and our own true nature. Her passion for voice empowerment and wellbeing have led her to create singing circles for women, run singing & song making workshops and to found the Secret Songwriters Club in 2024. This project provides a fun nurturing space for pre-teen girls to express, connect with other sensitive creatives and turn life’s experiences into magical songs together. They released their debut album with Melody in 2025 called 'Songs for the Inner Child'. For more info on Melody's work & offerings: www.melodymoon.com.au

TRADJAM OF THE IRON BARK is the local Surf Coast band bringing you tunes and Bush dances from their Celtic roots like Haystacks, Waves of Winkipop, Emus and Kangaroos, Stockyards. TBA will be joining us to share some Sea Shanty songs.

NICOLA CERINI is a textile artist and designer. Her aim has always been to connect people with nature by creating nature-inspired/biophilic design for a range of applications from handbags, clothing & floor rugs to interiors & public art. Living on the Surf Coast, one of the key inspirations for Nicola's biophilic design practice is observing and connecting with nature.

KATE BAINE is a recreational artist who enjoys painting and learning through classes, and with friends around the 'The Yellow Table' in the Bindaree Woolshed on their Freshwater Creek property. Oil painting & watercolours, and  acrylics more recently, have been the main interest.

RED WHYTE grew up on a farm at Bells Beach in 1967, where the ocean was ever-present—marking time, shaping light, and influencing how he learned to see. A camera given to him at the age of eight opened a lifelong relationship with image and place. Music followed—first drums, then guitar—alongside painting and pottery, yet photography remained a constant. While music and large canvases unfold slowly, photography offers an immediate dialogue with the moment, like light meeting water. Red's work is grounded in the coast: horizons, sunsets reflected in the sea, and the shifting moods of ocean and sky. More recently, his practice has turned toward black-and-white portraiture, carrying the same quiet attention and depth shaped by the tide.
