Winter Series Lecture: Lindsay Campbell

Presentation: Towards a Naturalistic and Sustainable Landscape (a brief look at garden history, design and implementation)
Speaker: Lindsay Campbell
Lindsay studied garden design at the Ryde School of Horticulture in the 1970s. For the first 20 years he worked in garden maintenance and landscape construction, including 18 months at the Royal Tasmanian Botanic Garden. This grounding in practical horticulture has informed his design practice for the past 20 years. Lindsay has also worked as a horticultural educator and was responsible for design and horticulture subjects for 10 years at TAFE Tasmania through the 90s. His work is strongly influenced by Tasmanian wilderness and Chinese and Japanese garden sensibilities.
Statement:
“My main aim is to create landscapes that are natural, inviting, harmonious, subtle, practical and efficient, that extend the quality of life of their inhabitants.”
Works include:
Vaucluse and Queenborough Rise Aged Care facilities, the Sustainability Learning Centre, a substantial portfolio of work with James Morrison and Yvette Breytenbach Architects (including residential gardens for Housing Tasmania), design work for the Quarry Pond Garden Government House and more than 1,500 residential, public and commercial projects.
