Connecting the Dots - Primary (Years 3-6)
About
Connecting the Dots – Mathematics Workshop Series (Junior Primary)NOTE: This is a two-day event
Monday 21/09/2026
Tuesday 22/09/2026
Join Liana McCurry and Leah Draper from SOLeducation for Connecting the Dots, a practical two-day mathematics workshop designed to build teacher confidence in teaching key mathematical concepts and understanding how they connect across the primary years.
Mathematical learning is cumulative. New concepts build on knowledge and skills developed earlier, but these connections are not always obvious. When teachers understand the learning progression behind a concept, they are better equipped to identify prerequisite knowledge, anticipate where students may experience difficulty, and sequence instruction to build strong foundations for future learning.
Across the two days, we will unpack key mathematical concepts and explore what students need to know, how concepts develop over time, and how to teach them explicitly and effectively.
The workshops will focus on:
- Using the Instructional Hierarchy to sequence and teach key mathematical concepts.
- Applying the Concrete-Representational-Abstract approach with practical hands-on activities.
- Identifying where each concept fits within the South Australian Curriculum/AC v9.
- Understanding how mathematical ideas connect to form a coherent learning progression
Primary Concepts Covered
Place Value • Addition • Subtraction • Multiplication • Division • Fractions • Decimals
This workshop is designed to be practical and immediately applicable, giving teachers a clearer picture of the mathematics they teach and, importantly, how each piece connects to what comes before and what comes next.
Cost: $300 + GST
Morning tea and lunch provided.
