Winston Churchill did not just have the depressive “Black Dog” but a more gravid psychiatric condition – bipolar disorder (or manic depression). His hitherto unexplored illness influenced world events for seventy years. Its contribution to the fateful outcome of the Dardanelles/Gallipoli campaign is able to be explored in a high-energy play. It melds The King’s Speech and Lincoln genres with a voice of intensity, humour and poignancy.
