Is it Really Possible to Create a Book Together? 
Seasoned children’s writer Libby, and former exec online producer Ch 7, Lisa, talk about
joining forces to create a book about a familiar family scenario! A recalcitrant child says one
to many ‘no-nevers’ and gets her comeuppance. The co-creators go through the process of
story-making, choosing a publisher, agreeing on suitable artwork, agonising over the roughs, watching the work evolve
from afar, right up to pages. And beyond. Animation? Sequel?
No Never! a cautionary tale (Hachette, 2020) by Lisa Hathorn Jarman and Libby Hathorn.
Libby Hathorn is an award winning author of more than eighty books for children and young people. Translated into several
languages and adapted for stage and screen, her work has won Honours in Australia, United States, Great Britain and Holland. She
wrote Way Home illustrated by Greg Rogers which won the Kate Greenaway Award UK; her first YA novel Thunderwith was made a
movie by Hallmark Hall of Fame; and her opera libretto Grandma’s Shoes (composer Graeme Koehne) won her an AWGIE for the
libretto. She is currently working with Elena Katz Chernin on an opera for children based on her book Outside. Her national awards
and honours include a Centenary Medal for work in children’s literature; the Alice Award for a woman writer ‘who has made a
distinguished and long-term contribution to Australian literature,’ 2014; and the Asher Literary Award, 2017, a peace prize for
