About

Fanny Cochrane Smith’s (b. 1834) wax cylinder recordings made in 1899 & 1903 are the only ones of Tasmanian Language. They were among the first of the NFSA’s Sounds of Australia and were pivotal in reconstructing palawa kani. Bruce tells the story behind the photo of Horace Watson recording her — of history, genocide, technology and the power of song.
Bruce Watson is a songwriter who performs across Australia, NZ & the UK, has produced 7 albums and won many awards. www.brucewatsonmusic.com
