This powerful and moving drama follows the rollercoaster adventures of Betsy Abell (née Balcombe), daughter of the 1st Treasurer of NSW. Land-owners in Bungonia, the Balcombes were high society - until Billy Balcombe’s death sends them hurtling toward disaster. But ever-resilient and courageous Betsy rescues her family from drought and destitution, escapes a powerful predator and in 1844 finally gains international fame as an author.
