Toolbox Top-Up: One World, Many Voices (Fly On The Wall)

World Voice Day is coming up, so celebrate with us by discovering new teaching tools at our Toolbox Top-Up Event!

Snoop on demonstration lessons by some of Brisbane's best singing teachers. Get the low-down on what they're doing and why it works!

As singing teachers, we rarely get to watch others teach. This 'Fly On The Wall' masterclass is your chance to observe a series of singing lessons from different teachers. The master teachers will discuss why they've chosen specific exercises - the purpose, the pedagogy and the physiology behind it. It's a masterclass but with so much more detail! The focus is on you, the teacher.

Each teacher will showcase a student with different issues; no already polished masterclass performances here! You can see how to approach different vocal problems including; alignment, breath flow and support, registration, resonance, tension, articulation, stylistic concerns... the list could go on.

Toolbox Top-Up: One World, Many Voices is ANATS Queensland's first event of the year, and our first in person event post-covid! We want you to come along and (quite frankly) steal all the ideas, exercises, and tricks that you see! Start your year off by expanding your teaching repertoire with new tools and techniques. Take them back to your studio and help your students achieve their next breakthrough!

Christina Grønborg

Christina Grønborg is a published and extensively experienced classical singer, researcher, and singing teacher. She is a current PhD candidate and is a regular presenter at national singing teaching conferences. Her teaching career has led her across Australia (from WAAPA to the Young Con) and into teaching rooms throughout Brisbane’s high schools.
Christina’s vast experience with young singers has rendered her an expert in female adolescent voices (they are the subject of her PhD research) and she is particularly interested in refining the art of repertoire choice for the developing voice. If you have unanswered questions about working with teenage/children’s voices, then April 18th offers a fantastic opportunity to quiz a real specialist. Come to Birralee Hall armed with your best questions, watch a master teacher at work, and afterwards you can ask her exactly what happened!
 
Stephanie Taylor

Stephanie Taylor is a singer, teacher, and lecturer par excellence. She is a longstanding member of the contemporary and jazz faculty at the Young and Open Queensland Conservatorium and is a voice teacher, choral conductor, and school musical director at St. Margaret’s Anglican Girls School.
Her studies have taken her on regular trips to the United States of America where she studied in Manhattan, NY and at the Baldwin University in Ohio. She has also completed Somatic Voicework Levels I, II, III, (BWU). Stephanie’s students are employed on current touring productions of Pippin, Shrek the Musical, and Six: The Musical.
If maybe you have wondered what’s involved in preparing students for the highest levels of professional performance or perhaps would like some direction in how to introduce Jazz to younger students, Stephanie knows and will be sharing her experience at our event on April 18th!

Will Day

Will Day is a student’s dream; a seasoned popular performer who is passionate about teaching singing. Will teaches voice, ensemble, and ear training at JMC Academy and is currently completing his Masters in Vocal Pedagogy at the Queensland Conservatorium. He still finds time to pursue a successful country music career where he clocks up 250 gigs a year and releases charting albums and singles (he’s recording a new album right now).
Will is an excellent teacher and a master stylist. He’s looking forward to sharing his knowledge and experience with the ANATS community. To see Will perform you will have to wait for the next major country music festival BUT to see Will teach (and to have the opportunity to quiz him about techniques and tips) you can come to Birralee Hall on April 18th
