As part of the South Coast Writers Centre's School Holiday Program, local children's authors will be doing FREE live readings from their books every morning at Coledale Community Hall on the 12th, 13th and 15th of April.
These authors have been curated by the Children's Book Council of Australia Illawarra South Coast Sub-branch.
The readings are free, but registrations are required. Please bring a pillow for you and your child to enjoy the Storytimes comfortably.

MONDAY 12 APRIL
9.15am-9.35am:
Sam Squiers is an award-winning Sports Journalist, who over the course of her career has become a strong advocate for women in sport. In 2014, Sam founded Sportette to provide an avenue to tell the incredible stories of our female athletes, and it's grown to be a leading think tank on Women's Sports. Princesses Wear Sneakers is Sam's debut children's novel. A heartwarming tale of a princess’s passionate pursuit of her sporting dreams, PWS sends a powerful message to girls about sport from a key early age. Sam is also a WPGA Board Director and a mum to her own little girls Imogen and Elle.
9.35am-9.55am:
Di Ellis was told once by a very wise lady that you should do what makes your heart sing, and for her, that’s writing. After gaining her Diploma of Professional Children’s Writing in 2000, Di has written poetry, picture books, chapter books, short stories and more recently flash fiction. Her last published picture book was launched in January 2020 titled Kingsley the Cross-Eyed Kookaburra.
TUESDAY 13 APRIL
9.15am-9.35am:
Sue Whiting is a children's book author and editor. She writes books for all ages, including the bestselling Missing, and the award-winning A Swim in the Sea. Sue’s latest books are The Book of Chance: a suspenseful mystery novel for readers 10+, and the picture book Good Question. As a school performer, Sue has informed, inspired and entertained thousands of kids across the country.
9.35am-9.55am:
Max Hamilton is an award-winning illustrator, graphic designer and most enthusiastically a maker of children’s books. She enjoys noticing the little details in things, loves to get lost in the world of illustration and stories, and through her art aims to raise awareness of the importance of protecting our Australian fauna.
THURSDAY 15 APRIL
9.15am-9.35am:
Pat Simmons is a writer of poetry, short stories, flash fiction and children’s picture books. Her picture books Ziggy’s Zoo and Little Spiral entered the world in 2018. Followed by George in 2019. Her most recent picture book Gargoyle’s Garden came to life in November 2020, and picture book number five, The Cat Thief, is due for release in July 2021.
9.35am-9.55am:
Karen Hendriks is a children’s author who believes that stories can change the world. Karen was a primary school teacher whose go to was always picture books, and she now returns to schools as a speaker and storyteller. Karen is the author of Go Away, Foxy Foxy and Feathers. Karen has had many short stories published in hardcopy anthologies and online, and her new picture book Home will be released during Refugee Week in 2021.
