Should We Bring The Children? CANCELLED
Presented by: Catherine Sanders
Director Bower Place, Clinical Psychologist & Clinical Member& Supervisor of The Australian Association of Family Therapy.
When we think of family we often think of children, yet many practitioners are reluctant to include the youngest members in sessions. While appreciating the proven effectiveness of family therapy for childhood difficulties constraints include a lack of knowledge of how to engage and work with young people, issues of confidentiality and protectiveness and uncertainty about capacity to manage the chaos which can ensue. This workshop will address both theory and practice of working with children in their families using the lens of Bower(method) the model of practice developed at Bower Place, to explore difficulties of children and their families and shape intervention. DVD material, case examples and practical activities will be used to present theory and practical skills required to work effectively with families with children. Joining, questioning and intervention will be explored in a way that is enjoyable and effective for both clients and therapist.
