The common mental health issues experienced by men include depression and anxiety and substance-related issues. The suicide rate for men is three times that of women.
Men face particular challenges in recognising these issues and there are barriers to seeking and accessing assistance. Men often present on several occasions before a mental health problem is identified. A high index of suspicion and a thorough assessment are vital.
