About

“I damaged my shoulder in 1980, a stubborn injury which resisted all physio/medically accepted methods of recuperation. Thanks to a particular movement suggested in Catherine’s class, I am now able to train again at a level I had lost over 20 years ago. I now have full use of my ENTIRE body, I feel healthy, strong, more confident and satisfied with my whole entity. Catherine has been instrumental in allowing me to find the missing part to complete the puzzle.”

From July to September we’ll explore various ways of rolling. Mobilising by mindfully moving points of pressure from one area to another is one of the fastest ways to reduce overall muscle tension and create a sense of connectedness from head to toe – the foundation for graceful, efficient movement.

Feldenkrais® classes improve the communication between the brain and body, thus improving accuracy and coordination. When you know what you are doing, you can do what you want with more fluidity, ease and precision.

By doing regular Feldenkrais sessions:

  • Awareness of habitual neuromuscular rigidities is increased;
  • Overall tonus is usually reduced (or increased where needed);
  • More of the self is spontaneously recruited to perform daily activities;
  • More equitable distribution of labour is achieved – large muscles do the lion's share of the work, while smaller muscles contribute by their fine motor control and superior orientating capacity;
  • Localised wear and tear is minimised;
  • The ability to correlate certain sensations with improved functioning is expanded;
  • New, more comfortable ways of doing familiar tasks are created;
  • The self-image is clarified; and
  • Mood is often changed for the better – many participants say they feel calmer and more buoyant.

Feldenkrais is about training your brain to use your body in the most efficient way it can to achieve the best possible range of movements. I attend classes to improve my flexibility, mobility, posture, balance, co-ordination and performance, to assist with rehabilitation from surgery and pain relief, and to prevent and relieve stiffness. Catherine’s Feldenkrais classes have improved my personal awareness of how my body moves and offer a means to improving the way I move. It has made it possible to change the ways I habitually move and as a consequence increased the duration of physical activity because of an improvement of movement efficiency.”

All you need is a large mat (or carpet), the ability to get down to and up from the floor, a spare hour each week and a little bit of curiosity. MP3 recordings of each class will be provided a few days after the class is presented, so while we would love your company at the time the lesson is being streamed, you could still enrol even if you can’t make the actual class time.
