Restrung Productions and Metro Arts present
Dreaming in the Sand
Composed by Robbie James. Performed by the Bentley String Quintet.
Across three acts of Dreaming In The Sand explores Australia before the coming of the First Fleet, the journey and arrival of the fleet and the ensuing tragedies and finally, an imagined present day where Indigenous and non-Indigenous cultures are equally enriched by one another.
Renowned Brisbane ensemble Bentley String Quintet teams up with GANGgajang’s Robbie James to premiere his new work, Dreaming In The Sand.
Across three acts of Dreaming In The Sand explores Australia before the coming of the First Fleet, the journey and arrival of the fleet and the ensuing tragedies and finally, an imagined present day where Indigenous and non-Indigenous cultures are equally enriched by one another. The music, highly melodic and for the most part uplifting, takes on the mantle of offering solutions through embodying its dream for a better world, only addressing the tragic events in our history in the second act. Dreaming In The Sand pays homage to all those displaced, past and present.
This event is presented as part of Restrung Festival, bringing audiences a banquet of boundary-pushing, strings-driven music and art. Click here to view the full Restrung Festival program.
