About

Emily will be presenting on Cognitive Analytic Therapy and exploring ideas around how internalised experiences of feeling chronically unseen, misunderstood, or ‘not good enough’ can impact on a person’s developing sense of self. If chronically repeated, these sorts of experiences are implicated in difficulties with emotion regulation and dissociation that can be confusing and bewildering. Emily will finish with an overview of the Multiple Self States Model as a way of working with emotion dysregulation and borderline personality disorder.

Emily is a clinical psychologist that works at the Centre for Clinical Psychology, as well as at the Werribee Mercy Mother Baby Unit. Emily has particular interests in working with developmental trauma, relational and attachment difficulties.
Emily has undertaken specialist training in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT). CAT pays special attention to the relationships we have, both with others and ourselves. CAT is particularly suited to people who would like to work on unhelpful relationship patterns, or whose ‘self-talk’ is harsh, punitive, filled with doubt, or that contributes to anxiety, depression, or other life difficulties.
