Aboriginal Cultural Awareness - Professional Learning
Calling all teachers and educators - please join us at NERAM for a workshop by local Anaiwan educator and consultant, David Widders. An after-school workshop specifically aimed at teachers and school leaders, this event aims to build insight and enable more awareness about how to work with Indigenous students and communities as well as how to more effectively embed the NSW cross curriculum priority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories & Cultures.
The workshop will cover the following areas:
- White Australia Policy and how that affected Aboriginal people in NSW – Segregation and Assimilation.
- Missions/Reserves – Aborigines Protection ACT. What’s the impact on Aboriginal Australia today?
- Aboriginal Identity – Who and what determines it? Aboriginal Proof of Aboriginality and why it’s important and topical.
- Aboriginal Kinship Structures – Traditionally and how the behaviours haven’t changed in Aboriginal community and family’s
- Where to from here. Moving forward and what we can do as teachers and schools to improve service delivery and community relationships.
- Conclusion with open floor to finish.
