Learn to Linux - School Holiday workshop
ECU is an Academic Centre of Cyber Security Excellence and is proud to offer a workshop for High-School aged students interested in cybersecurity. Cybersecurity is the protection of digital devices, networks, and information from being attacked. Cybercriminals are known to access, change, and/or destroy information.
Linux is a popular alternative operating system often used in cybersecurity. Learn to Linux is a free, hands-on workshop where participants are introduced to different Linux operating systems including Ubuntu. the second half of the day will be focussing on the use of command lines.
Plan for the day -
9:00 - Welcome and introduction to Linux - use our desktop computers
9:15 - 10:45 - Introduction to Linux - Executing Commands and Basic File Operators
10:45 - BYO Morning Tea
11:00 - 12:30 - Linux essentials - Command Lines
12:30 - 1:00 - BYO Lunch - sit around the dam and enjoy the surroundings - we do ask that no feeding the ducks!
1:00 - 1:30 - Where to from here- shell Scripting and Bash
1:30 - 3:00 - Linux in action - Complete the challenges
Date: Tuesday 4th October 9am - 3pm
Cost: $15
BYO catering: water bottles, lunch, and snacks. There are also cafés and vending machines around campus that you can access

Parking: Parking area 14 – Visitors parking and drop off area, Use Lakeside Drive entrance turn into Deakin Drive - over the roundabout and find Red Zone Car Park 14
