Founder's Day 2022 – Ramāyana
Welcome to Erasmus Primary School’s retelling of The Ramayana, in honour of our founder, Mr Leon MacLaren.
The magical epic lies behind Diwali, the Hindu festival of light, which will be marked by more than 1 billion Hindus, Sikhs and Jains on Thursday 19th of October. The ancient epic, The Ramayana, is a mesmerising story of the triumph of light over darkness. The story has had countless retellings. Tonight’s performance draws on versions from across India and South East Asia. Highlighting themes such as honour and trust, empathy and compassion, the environment and the moral maze of the battle between right and might. These important values are those we share at Erasmus, and prove how The Ramayana relates to the contemporary and connects with everyday people, here in this room. The Ramayana shows the ability a masterly poem has in bringing together the historical mythological with the political and ideological, and reflect an ageless 21st century India.
We hope you enjoy our presentation of The Ramayana and share its ultimate message of truth, light, love and respect.
Diwali Mubarak!
