The three-day workshop will comprise of five sessions, each morning and afternoon, comprising a lecture followed by a tutorial discussion of a problem raising the issues of law presented in the lecture. There will also be two interactive seminars on the second morning.

Topics include:
•    Public and private ownership of minerals
•    The constitutional framework of mining
•    Land open for mining
•    History, theory and systems of mineral resource disposition
•    The exploration and production mining application and tenament regime
•    Surrender and forfeiture
•    Transfers and dealing in resources title
•    State Developer Agreements
•    Environmental aspects
•    Native Title

This course will be led by Professor Richard Bartlett. Richard is the Chair of the Centre for Mining, Energy and Natural Resources Law . Richard has taught and practised in the area of mining, oil and gas and natural resources law and native title, in Canada and Australia for many years, the last 30 in Australia. Richard’s research interests include mining law, native title and water law.
Lecturers and tutors will be drawn from experts in Mining Law from: the Centre for Mining, Energy & Natural Resources Law and Energy and Resources Law, the Australian mining energy and resources law association, which is largely composed of members with a special interest and expertise in Mining Law.

For attendance at this short course practitioners are entitled to up to 6 CPD points to be selected from the competency areas Professional Skills (2.5), Ethics (0.5) and Substantive Law (16). 

The CPD rules differ for jurisdictions outside Western Australia and if you are outside Western Australia, we recommend that you check with your local relevant authority whether you can claim any CPD points.
