Jimmy Rabbitte, a self-proclaimed music promoter and manager, decides to organize a Dublin soul band to fill a cultural void in Ireland and use music to inspire passion for life and political engagement in his working class peers. Through flattery, manipulation and self-belief, he brings the band together, but it consists entirely of white musicians who have to be educated about the origins of soul music and how it can rescue Ireland during the time of the Troubles in the late 1980’s. Even though their raw talent and lofty aspirations set the group on the path to local stardom and fifteen minutes of fame, the pitfalls of showbiz begin to tear at their newfound friendships and aspirations. The show includes timeless soul classics like Aretha Franklin’s “Think”, Otis Redding’s “Try a Little Tenderness” and Wilson Pickett’s “Land of 1000 Dances”. Some local colour is injected with the Easybeats “Good Times”. All set in the Shipwright’s Inn Pub and St Fiacre’s Parish Hall! What more could an Irishman, woman or Trinitarian want?
