Holocaust Commemoration - University of Wollongong
About
The Australian Union for Jewish Students - AUJS-UOW – invites you, and all interested members of the Wollongong community, to the annual commemoration of Yom HaShoah, the Jewish commemoration the Holocaust. Tuesday 18 April 2023 (commencing Monday night) is Yom HaShoah but our annual commemoration in Wollongong will be in the following week, Thursday 27 April (a delay due to logistics, with apologies). This year, in addition to ceremony and song, we have actors reading an original 2022 play, followed by Q&A with the author, Vic Alhadeff. The play, “Torn Apart by War”, tells the remarkable story of his father’s survival of the 1944 liquidation of the Jews of Rhodes. It was performed at the ARA Darling Quarter Theatre and at the Randwick Ritz in Sydney in March and April 2022. Vic is a member of the Board of SBS, was CEO of the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, and previously was Editor-in Chief of the Australian Jewish News.
