Dieback Information Group Conference 2023

Dieback Information Group Conference 2023

hero
The Dieback Working Group will be holding their annual 2 day Dieback Information Group (DIG) conference on Wednesday 30th and Thursday 31st August 2023.

Join the conference for the first day, Wednesday 30th August at The Hub – Bentley Technology Park, or online, where you will hear from an array of speakers presenting on a broad range of topics.

This year's conference theme is Biosecurity: It’s Up to You! Through the use of this theme, we will explore the shared nature of our environmental biosecurity system, particularly in WA where vast areas and relatively low population density means that we all need to be aware of potential new threats to our environment and how to report them. The conference will equip you with the tools to engage with the public in meaningful ways and to understand alternative, diverse perspectives. This will help enact change, and mitigate threats to our ecological, social, economic and cultural values.
Featuring Guest Speakers
Anne Sawyer - Double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) solutions against Phytophthora cinnamomi
Dominic Castledine - Polyphagous shot-hole borer (PSHB): Small Beetle - Big Problem
Annelise Wiebkin - Collaborative Pest Management: Feral Deer as a case study
Shanika Harshani - Seed based rehabilitation of Phytophthora cinnamomi infested sites
Tom Mansfield - Current state of knowledge on how Phytophthora cinnamomi impacts fauna
Cecilia Crowe - Are quendas at increased risk of predation by invasive species in areas affected by Phytophthora cinnamomi?
The second day of the conference, Thursday 31st August will consist of a guided field trip, a vehicle clean down, and a site visit to some rehabilitated areas at the Hanson Gaskell Sand Operations in Ellenbrook. As the leading collaborator on the Basic Raw Materials guide, Hanson will show attendees first-hand Dieback Expression on site, and talk about best practice management undertaken as a pivotal part of their operations.
All are welcome to attend this fabulous two days of knowledge sharing, discussion, and collaboration on some of Western Australia’s largest environmental biosecurity threats, including Phytophthora Dieback, Myrtle Rust, and Polyphagous Shot-Hole Borer.
