A new play by Empyrean Theatre, The Flight of the Wolves, is a musical and poetic performance based on the works by Vladimir Vysotsky and Slava Miller in a unique and unmatched style of Theatre of Living Poetry.

This production is a homage to Mr Vysotsky, an incredible author and one of the leading Soviet singer-songwriters. Mr Miller considers Mr Vysotsky to be one of his teachers and spiritual guides. In addition to the songs and poetry, the production also features a dramatic storyline, presenting the character of Vysotsky that is bigger than just a singer, poet or an actor. The narrative masterfully connects Vysotsky’s songs with Miller’s poems and stories. The underlying theme of the play is a call for personal freedom. The central character is the leader of the wolf pack that is consumed by a call from the heavens and is trying to convert his brethren to a higher calling.

Video presentation and beautiful music assist the actors with taking the audience to a mysterious world of the play’s characters. The dramatic setting presents philosophical views of the author and interweaves them with his take on the roles played by Mr Vysotksy, including Vysotky’s legendary performance of Hamlet presented by Theatre on Taganka. Likewise, Mr Miller sings the songs with the same heart-breaking energy that was popularised by Mr Vysotsky.

Mr Miller is the playwright, director and lead actor of the play, performing all the songs and original stories and poems.
