Music of War (and Peace), for clarinet and piano
If the 18th-century is generally thought to be about the perfection of grace and form, and the 19th-century is commonly held to be about the ego (and the odd opium-induced love-bender), it’s probably just as fair (if just as hopelessly general) to say that 20th-century music is about ~the world~. This was probably always inevitable - the twin miracles of round-the-world flight and mass media that characterised the new century meant that a veil was lifted for everyone. All artists had a huge and ever-changing amount of raw-material to be either inspired or infuriated by. So, to kick off the series we, fittingly, look at a world poised on the brink of many hitherto unimagined things.
