Join us for an illuminating Lunar New Year event: "Unfixed: Migrant Identities in Asian/Australian Art and Subcultures." To mark the occasion, 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art, in collaboration with the Chau Chak Wing Museum and Power Institute, proudly presents two captivating talks as part of our public program for the Lunar New Year exhibitions at 4A.
Session 1: Chasing the Dragon: Migration in contemporary practice w WeiZen Ho, Jacquie Meng & Dongwang Fan

Join us for a thought-provoking panel discussion featuring esteemed artists WeiZen Ho, Jacquie Meng, and Dongwang Fan, moderated by Con Gerakaris. Explore the emergence of migration and diaspora as central themes in contemporary Australian art. Our distinguished panelists will share personal insights into how their migratory experiences have shaped their identities and artistic practices, shedding light on the evolving visibility of such narratives in national and international art settings.
Session 2: From Smart to Master - A Journey with China's Most Misunderstood Internet SubcultureTalk by Ye Funa Time: 3:15 pm - 4:00 pm
Beijing-based artist Ye Funa will present a performance lecture on shāmǎtè (杀马特), a Chinese fashion style that in the 2010s birthed a whole subculture. Ye Funa will offer a fresh perspective on this often misundertood trend, and its popularity amongst China’s migrant worker community.
