St John Ambulance First Aid (Primary Program) - Newport
Program details
This program teaches primary school students the importance of First Aid and what to do in an event of an emergency.
Focusing on the Danger, Response, Send, Airway, Breathing, CPR and Defibrillation (DRSABCD).
Students will be taken through step by step practical skills that empowers them to act.
The sessions will be fun, interactive and hands-on.
FIRST AID TRAINING PROGRAM WILL BE ON MONDAY 29 APRIL 2024
SESSION TIMES ARE AS FOLLOWS :
6 - 7 year olds (9.30 - 10.15am)
Students learn how to spot DANGER in an emergency, RESPOND accordingly and SEND for help. They will be guided on what number to call and act out a scenario to get them comfortable calling 000 in real life. Students will play a fun and interactive game as teams compete in the first aid quiz. By the end of the program, students will leave with essential skills and knowledge which they can call upon in an emergency situation.
8 - 9 year olds (10.15 - 11am)
Students will revise ‘DRS’ which involves assessing for dangers, obtaining a response and calling Triple Zero. The main focus of this module will be demonstrating how to check airway and breathing and how to place a patient into the recovery position. Students will then apply the knowledge they have learnt through an interactive game based on the DRSAB action plan.
10 - 12 year olds (11 - 11.45am)
Students learn how to spot DANGER in an emergency, RESPOND accordingly and SEND for help. It will be incorporated with a practical CPR component, guiding students through how to perform CPR and when it is required in a First Aid situation. Students will also participate in group problem-solving scenarios based on a variety of first aid situations allowing them to apply their knowledge.

This is an educational session for the children. Adults will need to attend and can assist their child/ren as needed.
If you have younger child then you can nominate another adult to be with the child participating in the session.
Adults need to step in if the behaviour of their child/ren is disrupting the educational experience for the educator and the other children.
$5 per child (for room hire cost)
