This workshop aims to assist therapists/allied health professionals working with sexuality, to explore their attitudes to sexual arousal in the therapeutic encounter. When working closely with individuals about topics of sexuality, it is possible for an arousal response from either therapist or client. Understanding our own values and beliefs is important in providing safe and ethical therapy to our clients. Participants explore ideas of erotic counter/transference and develop an understanding of their own erotic triggers. At the conclusion, participants will be able to:
• Define erotic transference and counter-transference in a therapeutic context;
• Understand the human arousal response process;
• Understand personal erotic triggers;
• Clarify personal values in relation to sexual arousal; and
• Articulate the impact of self-in-the-therapeutic encounter
