The Peter Corney Lecture in Youth Ministry 2024
The Placement of Jest in Youth Ministry: A Kierkegaardian Enquiry
With the youth of today being immersed in meme culture, the debate concerning the place of irony and humour within religious life needs to be revisited. Is there such a place? Are Christian youth able to remain faithful to Christ while participating in meme culture (a culture which, broadly speaking, rejects the category of the sacred)? This lecture answers such questions affirmatively, proposing a discipleship strategy for Christian youth ministry based on Søren Kierkegaard's theological dialectic of jest and earnestness.
Join us from 5:30pm for a light supper in the College dining room prior to the lecture starting at 6:15pm.
