2024 Theatre Production. "The Crucible"
SYNOPSIS ‘THE CRUCIBLE’
‘The Crucible’ is a play by Arthur Miller based on the Salem witch trials which took place in Massachusetts in 1692. It tells the story of a village that becomes embroiled in a witch hunt where the people of Salem live in a constant state of fear as more people are accused of witchcraft based on nothing more than the hysterical or self-serving claims of children and neighbours. The play was written by Miller as an allegory for McCarthyism in the 1940/50s, but has wider relevance in the authoritarian purges and show trials throughout history.
