The Professional Weekend is another staple of the AUSTA Q Calendar. This year we have an incredible weekend with:

Whether you are an early career or highly experienced ensemble director, this workshop aims to build and strengthen your perspective on the craft of conducting and the art of ensemble direction. No ensemble director can afford to miss this invaluable event.

Saturday 14 September

9.00-10.30    Session One - Introduction
Key aspects of conducting technique that enable greater gestural clarity and more effective musical communication.

Ensuring a solid technical basis for gesture enables the conductor to communicate to an ensemble with much greater musical effect and impact. Practical exercises that develop a solid technical basis will be addressed.

10.30-11.00    Morning Tea
11.00-12.30    Session Two - Score Study & Rehearsal Preparation

Exploration of methods and procedures that will enable the ensemble director to make the necessary decisions that allow for optimum rehearsal efficiency and musical results in performance.

12.30-1.15    Lunch
1.15-2.45    Session Three - Practical conducting of a string ensemble on a range of repertoire across difficulty levels from beginning to more advanced.

Practical conducting of an ensemble made up from workshop delegates that provides an opportunity to receive constructive feedback for improvement in a supportive masterclass format.

2:45 - 3:15    Afternoon Tea
3:15 - 4.15    Session Four - Practical Conducting session continued

Sunday 15 September

9.00-10.30    Session Five - Consolidation

11.00-12.30    Session Six - Rehearsal strategies that develop & build greater player listening and musicianship.

Rehearsal processes that make players more accountable for listening across the ensemble that also develop a higher level of musicianship. Transferable ensemble skills which apply across all repertoire that help to develop good ensemble playing in a more educational and efficient way.

12.30-1.15    Lunch

Important information for attendees:

Parking

Due to school events on throughout the weekend, parking can be challenging at BBC. Please allow adequate time to find a park either within the school grounds or on the surrounding streets of the campus.

Meals

AUSTA Q will again be offering individually catered lunch packs for a fee of $20 per person per day. The boxes include: Finger sandiwches, cheese and crackers, fresh fruit and mini sweet. Dietary options can include, gluten free, Vegan and Vegetarian. Delegates are also welcome to bring their own packed lunch and snacks. AUSTA Q will encourage everyone to gather in an outdoor area during break times in order to facilitate our usual and important collecial chit chat. Please also be aware the venue has requested that food and drink not be consumed within the facilities. 

* Please note that the meal order will be placed on Thursday morning so please purchase your pre-ordered meal before midnight Wednesday 11th September.
