PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: FAMILY VIOLENCE
About
What new insights should Family Therapists integrate into their practice?Family Therapy has historically developed effective models for addressing family violence, but in Australia, the feminist perspective has dominated. Recent state and federal Royal Commissions have deepened our understanding of family violence, including its nature, impact on partners and children, and the development of evidence-based models.
This talk will introduce these new learnings, focusing on the therapist's role in recognizing “red flags,” understanding coercive control, and other frameworks. There will be a discussion at the end about the possibility of future AAFT presentations on this topic.
