Join Us for A Night Out at The Sound Temple!
As Part of Mundaring Hills Open Studios we have included an Art - Sound - Supper and Film Event to the line-up of this year’s trail. This beautiful collaboration between The Sound Temple, Elina El Daher and Uncle Noel Nannup is all about creating ‘A Beyond Art Experience’.
Take this rare opportunity to meet with a very dear Elder that we lovingly call Uncle Noel. Dr Noel Nannup is a well respected Elder who loves spending time with us at The Sound Temple, a place he loves to create events and especially to share his stories.
Elina El Daher - a Guest Artist at The Sound Temple this year, would like to share the evening with you talking to you about the connection she has had with her artwork to this beautiful story. Elina is also working with Uncle Noel and The Sound Temple on another major art project in Western Australia called ‘Koort Boodja’ and would like share her updates with you all. There will be an opportunity to contribute your special unique gold star onto a painting to signify your own bright light that shines within you.
We will share a meal in community, which is such a lovely way to come together, to chat, to meet and to settle in. The Mandala Room will be home for the very special intimate screening of Mammung followed by a Sound Session inside The Sound Temple. There will be involvement in an art piece that Elina El Daher is currently working on and time to meet and ask questions of Uncle Noel.
About the Film
MAMMUNG is the Noongar name for the whale.
Around 10,000 years ago Western Australia experienced rapid sea-level rise. At that time, the indigenous Noongar people adapted to the loss of almost 30% of their land as the population moved inland ahead of a 'slow moving tsunami'. MAMMUNG the film explores the living memory that Noongar people hold of this event. The film follows Dr Noel Nannup in recalling the significance of places which are now below the sea and explaining the process of change that indigenous people endured through the narrative dreaming story of MAMMUNG the whale.
Indigenous cultures in Australia are one of the very few who have a living memory of a period climatic change that rivals what we are seeing today. MAMMUNG the film challenges us all to ask: can we learn to understand and value this rich body of knowledge as we too adapt to a changing climate? and what awaits us if we don't?
Please join us for this intimate screening of MAMMUNG, For more information about MAMMUNG the film go to https://www.mammungthefilm.com
