Submerged - Stories of Australia's Shipwrecks
About
The Batemans Bay Heritage Museum is hosting the Australian National Maritime Museum’s touring exhibition SUBMERGED: Stories of Australia’s Shipwrecks from Wednesday November 6 to Saturday December 21.The exhibition is presented by the Australian National Maritime Museum and the Australian Maritime Museums Council, and features accounts of maritime disasters on Australian waters.
From the loss of the Dutch merchant vessel Batavia 65 kilometres from the coast of Western Australia in 1629, to the wreckage of Japanese motor vessel Sanyo Maru in Boucaut Bay in 1937, the exhibition details stories of ill-fated ships all around the coasts of Australia. Shipwrecks from all states are featured, as well an account of Australia’s second submarine which sunk in the sea of Marmara outside Turkey in 1915.
The exhibition will also highlight the history of local shipwrecks and maritime disasters along the South Coast of NSW.
