Newport design release online information session
About
We’re removing the Maddox Road and Champion Road level crossings, Newport to improve safety and create more reliable travel times.
We’re building rail bridges over Maddox Road and closing Champion Road at the rail line. To keep locals moving we’re extending Akuna Drive to connect Champions Road to Maddox Road.
This new road will make it safer and easier for drivers to travel through Newport and Williamstown. The new road will open before Champion Road closes in 2026.
As part of the project, we’ll also build a new pedestrian and cycling bridge over the rail line at Champion Road to keep the community connected.
We’ll make it safer for people to cross the rail line at Maddox Road and upgrade local walking and cycling connections.
Early site investigations are underway, with construction to start in 2025 and Newport level crossing free in 2026.
Designs have been released for the rail bridge over Maddox Road, the new link road to extend Akuna Drive connecting Champion Road to Maddox Road and the new pedestrian and cycling bridge over the rail line at Champion Road.
Join us for an online information session to find out more about designs, meet the team, ask questions and learn more about how we’ll build the rail bridges and new road.
